Situated in Central Queensland at the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef, and nestled on the western side of a beautiful peninsula, overlooking one of the most magnificent views of Bustard Bay and Round Hill Creek you will find one of the last of its kind: a picturesque seaside village known as “The Town of 1770”.

Named after Captain Cook's and the crew of the HMS Endeavour’s landing in Queensland on the 24th of May 1770, the town and surrounding area have much to offer to history fans, nature lovers and anyone who needs to relax and want to enjoy nature at its best. The unspoiled landscape has changed little since the Captain and his crew arrived and still offers beautiful vistas and tranquil waters, which are ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Outside of being peaceful and idyllic, the area has a perfect climate with all year around temperatures ranging from 21 C to 30 C. The more than 300 days of bright sunshine and the area's preserved wildlife and vegetation, make long walks interesting and most enjoyable. The magnificent coastline is renowned for rock and estuary fishing and these same waters will also make any surfing fanatic feel at home. Charter companies organize day cruises and flights to the outer Great Barrier Reef, which is the world's largest coral reef system. Boats will take you to the nearby Lady Musgrave Island, a 14 hectare coral cay in the Great Barrier Reef or Lady Elliot Island, Fitzroy Reef, Pancake Creek, which are included in the list of renowned tourist attractions. As you already are on an excursion, why not make a stop at the state heritage protected and historic Bustard Head Lighthouse, which is legendary for its tragic history of shipwrecks, murder, abduction, suicide and drownings, marking the lives of its light house keeper and their families.
